With its richness of colour throughout the year, from Springtime with 23 varieties of Wild Orchid and an abundance of flowers to the different Wild Herbs, Jasmines and Honeysuckles.
It’s a sight to behold.
From May to the end of September whilst walking along the beaches we can witness in the sand dunes, the Sea Daffodil (Pancratium Maritimum) with its beautiful white flower, the Marine Thistle (Eryngium Maritimum) that has hard grey leaves.
At the beginning of the year the island opens up to a vivid yellow of the Bermuda Buttercup. The island changes colour each month with different Herbs, shrubs and flowers, which brings out with them all the different butterflies.
Because we are on the main migratory path from Europe to Africa, there are some 218 different species of birds. The most numerous group are the passerines. There are many wintering birds on the island.
Birds of Prey
These include the Osprey, Egyptian Vultures, these are the largest birds on the island.There is an abundance of Falcons, Booted Eagles, Red Kites, Black Kites and Buzzards.
Open Country Birds
There is an abundance of meditteranean species that are globally under threat, that you can see on the island. Such as the Short Toed Lark, Tawny Pipit, Theckler Lark and the Hoopoe.
Forest Birds
Abundant species stand out such as the Warblers, The Fire Crest, Chaffinch, Great Tit and many Spotted Fly Catchers.
There are 11 species of reptiles and 2 species of amphibians.Tortoise are abundant in Menorca, although globally it is a threatened species. Rabbits, Hedgehogs and Pine Martins are native to the island.
